Legora today announced the opening of its first Canadian office in Toronto, marking a significant milestone in the company's North American expansion.

The launch builds on Legora's acquisition of the Canadian legal AI company Walter, and an already strong foothold in the Canadian legal market with leading customers including McMillan LLP and Stewart McKelvey.

"Legal teams are no longer asking if they should adopt AI, they're focused on how to deploy it across their entire organization," said Max Junestrand, CEO and Co-Founder of Legora. "Canada exemplifies that shift, and we're proud to deepen our commitment here with a permanent local presence."

Canada's legal sector has emerged as one of the most dynamic markets for legal AI, and Legora's local presence will enable deeper collaboration with law firms, corporate legal teams, and technology partners across the country.

"Canada was a natural next step for Legora," says Daniel Himmel, Head of Legal Engineering for North America and founding member of Legora’s Canadian expansion, based in Toronto. "The legal market here is sophisticated, the talent is exceptional, and firms and in-house teams are actively looking for AI that actually works in practice. Toronto is where we're planting our flag. We're not parachuting in, we're here to be part of the ecosystem for the long run."

The acquisition of Walter, a Canadian-born, agent-native legal AI company whose customers include McCarthy Tétrault and Fasken, serves as one of the foundations for this expansion, bringing local expertise, relationships, and talent that will strengthen Legora's ability to serve Canadian customers at scale.

Legora already counts some of Canada's most respected law firms among its customers. Stewart McKelvey, one of Atlantic Canada's premier regional firms, and McMillan LLP, a leading national business law firm, are among the customers driving adoption of Legora's platform for research, review, and drafting across high-stakes matters.

"Legora's expansion into Canada reflects exactly the kind of long-term commitment the Canadian legal market deserves," said Bruce Chapple, CEO and Managing Partner of McMillan LLP. "Our firmwide deployment of their platform has allowed us to move beyond experimentation and into meaningful, day-to-day application of AI in our legal work.”

Paul Saunders, Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer, at Stewart McKelvey, commented:

“Legora’s decision to open a Toronto office is a clear signal that it is investing meaningfully in Canada as a long-term, strategic market. At Stewart McKelvey, we’ve taken an AI-forward approach by adopting Legora firmwide, and we’re already seeing strong early results across document reviewing and drafting. Having a local presence will accelerate collaboration and ensure the platform continues to evolve in line with the needs of Canadian legal teams. It also reinforces confidence that Legora is committed to supporting firms here with the same depth and ambition we’re seeing globally.”

The Toronto launch is part of Legora's broader North American growth strategy, which has seen the company open offices across the continent over the past year. The announcement follows a period of exceptional growth for Legora, including surpassing $100 million in annual recurring revenue and reaching a $5.55 billion valuation in its recent Series D funding round. The company now serves over 1,000 leading law firms and in-house legal teams across more than 50 markets.
