HWLE Lawyers, Australia’s largest law firm by partner numbers, has selected Legora as its firmwide AI platform. The rollout will make Legora available to more than 1,900 lawyers and staff across the firm’s national footprint from July, marking one of the most significant AI deployments in the Australian legal market to date.
HWLE Lawyers selected Legora following an evaluation through a rigorous and controlled pilot program, in which hundreds of use cases were assessed across the firm against clearly defined risk measurement guardrails.
“As we enter a new phase for our firm backed by a period of strong growth, we are continuing to invest in our people, client experience and technology,” said Kris Hopkins, CEO at HWLE Lawyers. “This partnership is an exciting step forward in building on that growth to realise the full potential of the firm.”
HWLE Lawyers identified that Legora’s governance, legal engineering and training capabilities were key strengths of the platform demonstrated during the pilot program, and that its upcoming agentic capabilities would position the firm well for the future of legal work.
“Rolling out Legora firmwide will give our lawyers better ways to deliver value for clients, while its agentic capabilities will assist in future-proofing the firm for the next generation of legal practice,” said Simon Hill, Head of Digital Intelligence at HWLE Lawyers.
Underpinning the rollout is a comprehensive governance framework, including ongoing compliance training and an AI governance committee. To accelerate adoption and uplift capability, the firm is empowering practitioners with dedicated time and resources, enabling them to develop depth of expertise and drive national collaboration and engagement.
“HWLE’s selection of Legora is a significant moment for us in the region,” said Heather Paterson, VP of Legora APJ. “Partnering with the largest law firm in Australia by partner numbers reflects the momentum we are seeing across the market, and we are proud to support HWLE Lawyers as it enters its next phase. We look forward to working alongside the firm’s lawyers to embed Legora into legal workflows and help deliver value for their clients.”
The announcement is part of Legora’s continued expansion in the Australian market, where the platform is already used by leading firms including MinterEllison, Allens, Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, K&L Gates Australia, White & Case, Dentons Australia, Hamilton Locke, Baker McKenzie, Pinsent Masons and others.
