Danske Bank’s Group Legal is embedding Legora’s AI platform across its legal tasks and workflows, building on shared capabilities, controls, and approved ways of working across the bank. The solution supports work across languages and jurisdictions while creating more capacity for complex advice.
Danske Bank’s Forward ’28 strategy sets a clear ambition: to be the leading AI-enabled bank in the Nordics.
“AI is undoubtedly one of the most important drivers of change in banking. Our clear goal is to use AI to create value in how we operate and, especially, how we serve our customers,” says Chief AI Officer Kasper Tjørntved Davidsen.
Group Legal is putting that ambition into practice by embedding AI into its legal work and workflows.
”We want to be right there at the forefront with the business, enabling speed and quality, delivering high-quality outcomes for clients and ultimately helping the bank win in the market,” says Kasper Friis-Hansen, Group General Counsel.

Finding the right solution
Danske Bank is democratising GenAI by making it available in forms suited to different needs, from enterprise-wide capabilities to solutions tailored to specific roles and workflows. In Group Legal, that meant finding technology designed for the realities of legal practice.
"We were looking for a tailor-made AI tool that could support us more specifically on legal tasks and legal workflows," explains Theis Kærn Poulsen, Head of Corporate Affairs & Regulatory Legal.

That search led the team to Legora. Before moving forward, Danske Bank needed assurance that the platform’s security, architecture and data handling met the standards required of a major Nordic financial institution.
"Once we got that comfort, the conversation changed from, 'can we do this', to 'how do we scale this and at speed'," recalls Kasper Friis-Hansen.
The same rigour shaped the collaboration with Legora from the outset. "What struck me working with Danske Bank's legal team was how far ahead of the curve they already were," says Sebastian Peters, Head of Legal Engineering at Legora.
"They didn't just want an AI tool bolted onto existing processes. They came in asking sharp, specific questions about architecture, jurisdictional accuracy, and how AI could actually change the way legal work gets done, not just speed up the old way. That level of ambition and technical rigour from a legal team is rare to see," he adds.
Scaling what works
Danske Bank’s approach is to scale AI in a responsible and repeatable way, using shared capabilities, robust controls and approved ways of working. With 40+ AI use cases live across the bank, teams can build on proven foundations rather than start from scratch.
“For us, responsible, repeatable scaling means moving fast with discipline, reusing what works, embedding AI where it creates value, and keeping human judgement and accountability at the centre,” says Kasper Tjørntved Davidsen.

In Group Legal, scaling also requires the technology to work consistently across the Nordic organisation. "Legora handles linguistic and jurisdictional nuances. That matters, of course, enormously for us as a local legal team," says Madelene Utter, Head of Legal Sweden. This local relevance, combined with a consistent platform experience, supports adoption across the legal organisation.

By supporting routine and repetitive work, Legora creates more capacity for complex advice, stakeholder engagement and business support, enabling the team to focus on “where they add real value to our stakeholders,” says Theis Kærn Poulsen, Head of Corporate Affairs & Regulatory Legal.
For Danske Bank, the significance of the Legora rollout lies not only in the value it creates for Group Legal, but in showing how specialised AI can become part of a scalable enterprise approach.
“When we implement responsible, reliable and scalable AI at Danske Bank, we enable individuals, teams and the organisation as a whole to create greater value,” Kasper Tjørntved Davidsen concludes.
