With a presence spanning the Arabic-speaking world in one of the most linguistically complex legal markets anywhere, Al Tamimi & Company saw what much of the legal technology industry had yet to address: the potential for Arabic-language legal AI to transform the way lawyers work.
Approximately 60 percent of Al Tamimi & Company’s lawyers are primary Arabic speakers, working daily across Arabic, English, and French. The volume and variety of work is immense, and so is the opportunity to do it better.
"We had been looking to connect with leaders in the AI space, particularly those with Arabic capability or a genuine interest in developing it," says Essam Al Tamimi, Chairman and founder. "We wanted what we truly believed could help our lawyers, add value for our clients, and give us an edge." In Legora, he found not just a platform that met that standard, but a partner that shared his conviction about what Arabic legal AI could become.
Finding the right partner
For Legora, the Middle East presents one of the most compelling opportunities in legal AI. The region's pace of development, the central role of Arabic across government, courts, and commerce, and the ambition of its legal institutions made it a natural focus. Building something truly capable in Arabic meant finding a firm at the center of it all.
That firm was Al Tamimi & Company. With deep regional roots and a clear understanding of what Arabic legal work demands in practice, the firm was the natural partner to help shape what Arabic legal AI should look like.
The feeling was mutual. Essam explains: "We worked with Legora's competitors. We tried different systems. But it became clear that the determination and drive of the Legora team was most closely aligned with our vision and would provide clients with the best solution. We were very impressed with the system, and I received excellent feedback from our team."
Building together
At the heart of the partnership is something that goes beyond adoption: a joint effort to advance what Arabic-language legal AI can actually do. Al Tamimi brought deep regional expertise, an understanding of how Arabic operates in legal practice across multiple jurisdictions, and a clear view of what the market needed. Legora brought the technology, the development commitment, and the determination to match that ambition. The result is a collaboration built on equal investment in the outcome.
"What we've seen from the technology, the agility of the system, Legora's commitment to Arabization, and their genuine interest in the Middle East is huge," Essam says. The launch of the Arabic interface is the first expression of that joint ambition, developed with direct input from Al Tamimi's lawyers and shaped by the realities of legal work in the region.
A different pace of work
Since implementing Legora, the pace of work across the firm has shifted fundamentally. "When I used to work with lawyers in the past," Essam says, "I would assign them a matter and ask them to conduct research or to draft something. It would take days, sometimes weeks. Now I have young lawyers sit with me in the morning. We discuss the matter, the research, the presentation needed for a ministry or a client. And those young lawyers walk out of the office in the morning and send me the work by the afternoon, without being chased.”
"Being able to access thousands of laws, regulations, and amendments, and get accurate information at the push of a button, is remarkable," Essam says. "Legora has made our lawyers better overall."
As internal workflows have improved, so too has the quality of what the firm delivers to its clients. "The speed of client service has improved. The accuracy of information has improved. The efficiency of lawyers in staying on top of their files and identifying issues has improved," Essam explains. "Blending all of this together, it has made us a better law firm."
A responsibility that extends beyond the firm
For Essam, the significance of what he and Legora are building together extends well beyond Al Tamimi's own practice. The firm has always seen its role as one of service to the wider community: universities, young lawyers across the profession, and government bodies working on legislation and regulation. This partnership is an extension of that mission.
"Being associated with Legora, and being part of Legora's vision for a strong Arabic system that serves the wider community, is of huge value to us and something that Al Tamimi is proud to be part of,” he says.
The implications are significant. Arabic sits at the center of government, legislation, and the courts across the region. "The UAE government is already using AI in legislation, and 98 percent of government legislation here is in Arabic. Court proceedings, arbitration, documentation, arguments, submissions are all in Arabic." Essam sees Legora as having a natural place not just in law firms, but in courts, in-house counsel offices, and legislative practice across the region, and Al Tamimi as the partner best placed to open those doors.
"I see this as the first step," Essam says. "I'm certain that more governments and private sector entities will reach out to Legora to see how they can be part of this powerful system. There's a genuine need for what we have built together. And through our partnership, we can serve as a reference and make sure that those needs are met."
