Leading international law firm Addleshaw Goddard (AG) has announced the adoption of Legora as part of its strategy to further integrate advanced generative AI (GenAI) tools across its legal operations.

The decision to integrate Legora (formerly known as Leya) into AG's suite of GenAI technologies follows a comprehensive evaluation of the platform's capabilities. AG has been in conversation with Legora for almost a year, working closely with the team, and helping shape new features.

Legora has been brought in to replace a previous GenAI technology, specifically used for volume document reviews. The AG Innovation & Legal Technology Team has been particularly impressed with the pace of development and quality of Legora’s team to understand and help solve AG’s specific challenges and use-cases.

AG's adoption of Legora represents a significant enhancement of its ability to deliver on large, complex and strategic client mandates. For instance, Legora’s Tabular Review tool enables the bulk upload of documents to answer specific questions or extractions and can analyse up to 100,000 documents in parallel. The speed of this feature allows the team to add queries immediately, building out complex reviews within an easy-to-use and collaborative interface. Its application has been broad, allowing AG to elevate its established services while innovating and developing new offerings in previously uncharted areas.

AG has a strong track record of integrating legal tech solutions, first introducing machine learning solutions in 2014 for diligence. The firm has been leading the way in the practical application of GenAI to legal services over the past two years, through its own development work on AGPT, initial introduction of early-GenAI solutions and knowledge-sharing through The RAG Report and external workshops.

AG’s Innovation Group has expanded rapidly over the last decade to work with all groups across the firm and directly with clients. The 80+ strong team is constantly looking at ways to transform the legal services landscape further, ensuring that Addleshaw Goddard remains a leader in providing a full-service innovation offering to clients. The use of Legora is another key milestone in that journey.

Michael Kennedy, Head of Innovation & Legal Technology – R&D at Addleshaw Goddard, said:

"The adoption of Legora signifies a key milestone in Addleshaw Goddard's journey towards not only adapting to change, but leading it. Our approach is to make smart decisions that enable us to be flexible and agile in a rapidly evolving market. This enables us to stay ahead and continue to adopt the latest technology whilst advancing our learning. A combination of the speed of development and responsiveness of the platform and the positive collaboration with Legora's team was key to our decision."

Legora’s CEO, Max Junestrand, added:

“Our mission is to empower exceptional lawyers. A mission that perfectly aligns with our collaborative relationship with Addleshaw Goddard. Furthermore, it’s been brilliant to see the quick adoption and impact on client work from our platform. We have also been deeply committed to evolving our functionality with AG and their needs. Assisting them in adapting to the changing market, technology, and demands of legal work are our top priority as we continue to empower AG’s lawyers to achieve more.”

The use of Legora is complemented by the continued use of AG's internally developed tool, AGPT. The combination of these tools creates a powerful range of solutions for AG lawyers to deploy on client matters. The tool strategy ensures AG remains progressive, adaptable and responsive to client needs.

Elliot White, Director of Innovation & Legal Technology at Addleshaw Goddard, concluded:

"Embracing innovation and technology is embedded in our DNA and a key part of our firm's AG2030 strategy. As GenAI continues to evolve we are ready to adapt as new technologies arise. The positive feedback from across the firm and clients alike convinced us to bring Legora in as a key pillar of our volume document review work. It's refreshing to see the excitement it has generated and ideas about how the platform can be used."
